Au revoir to The $35 Challenge

Today, I will donate the money I would’ve wasted on eating my way out of boredome to OzHarvest. Today, my household will donate $348.87. Add $70 to that and you get the amount on money we spent on food the week before. Scary.
I just want to say a massive thankyou to everyone who blogged, tweeted, commented and participated in the inaugral $35 Challenge this year. I want to thank those regretfully declined. We’ll be back next year, bigger and better than ever, and I hope you’ll join us. I really, really do.
I’m still musing on it, you’re probably sick to death of hearing about it, but there you go.

Excellent stuff! I should track my spending to find out how much I spend on food in a typical week. The disparity will be interesting.

Thanks everyone!
I will be running the challenge again next year, anyone interested in getting involved don’t hesitate to get in touch. Let me know and I will add you to the mailing list so you’ll get plenty of warning next year.
I think you did something awesome, and I’d love to join you next year.
Speaking of foody goodness though, you should prod R to organise a trip down here: Tas is slow-food heaven.
=)
Hi R***,
For your information, the payment you made to info@ozharvest.org for
AUD 350.00 (plus any buyer fee if applicable) has now been cleared and will be deposited
into their bank account tonight.
It’s done!!
And now to fill in a form and get my workplace to match it so it will be $700 to ozharvest overall! =)
I just came across your site so I totally missed this challenge but what a great idea. And I would love to take part next year!

Hi Simone. Fantastic! I will add you to the mailing list!
Hi, I don’t want to boo-hoo your idea because it’s a good one but there are people like me who live on $35 or £22 approx a week, every week and don’t have a choice. So while you are shouting hoorah say a silent prayer for those who won’t ever know you exist.

Hi Beverly. Thanks for stopping by.
That’s exactly what the challenge is trying to raise awareness of – what it’s like to live on a tight budget. I myself lived on $35 a week (after rent and a train ticket) for a few years and it was hideous. And I’m ‘shouting hoorah’ for the money I’ve raised for a charity that goes out of its way to rescue food and give it to those who need it.
I won’t ‘say a prayer’ because I don’t beleive in God. Of course my thoughts go out to those living in poverty. Otherwise I wouldn’t be trying to raise awareness of it in the first place.
